The Herr’s Mill Covered Bridge is being moved to Stone Gables Estate in Elizabethtown, PA as part of DAS Companies Inc’s stewardship outreach to save and preserve Lancaster County’s historic architectural treasures. All hurtles have been overcome and now the 210-ton crane arrives September 4th to sure up the structure which was almost lost in the last two floods this past month. Everything, including the lime stone abutments, are being removed and reused in the reconstruction of both sections of this amazing double pour arch bridge. One section will be used and rebuilt to its original grandeur for horse and carriage, hitch wagons and modern traffic crossing over the creek. The other section will be rebuilt to cross the creek at another point for an 1860’s replica of a 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive and passenger cars “Full Scale”. People from all over the world will once again be able to experience the master craftsmanship of the Herr’s Mill Covered Bridge in two distinct applications. The first half will be completed by March 30, 2019 with the second half being completed about 3 years later.
Our opening to the public will be April 22, 2019 with the reenactment of the Lincoln Funeral Train passing by the Herr’s Mill Covered bridge.
